BBC Bargain Hunt fans have struck a huge blow in taking over rival show | TV & Radio | Showbiz and TV

The BBC service has been dealt a devastating blow amid reports that a new show will rival Bargain Hunt.

Fans have enjoyed the series for 24 years, but a new program will rival the BBC favourite. Show insiders have suggested producers want to continue to build on the success of the beloved antiques offering.

According to reports, the Beeb is keen to rival the popularity of Bargain Hunt with an art spin-off.

A source told The Sun: “Bargain Hunt averages around two million viewers a day, so it’s no surprise that curators are always considering twists on the format.

“The latest is The Art Game, a six-part series by BBC Arts.

“Each hour-long episode will follow ordinary people as they try to buy art that they think will make a profit.”

They added: “From Monet to Banksy, and everything in between, it has a more cultivated edge than the Bargain Hunt trawl for antiques, but it’s just as interesting, if not more so, the higher the stakes are involved .

“The show should air next year.”

The BBC’s Bargain Hunt sees two teams of ordinary people, alongside experts, unearth unique items and are given one hour to buy collectables with their £300 budget.

The items are then sold at an actual auction a week later to see which teams make the most profit.

Express Online has learned that the Art Game will follow a similar format to Bargain Hunt.

A BBC spokesperson explained: “Commissioned for BBC Arts and BBC NI, this six-part series exploring the world of how to make money buying and selling art is from Stellify Media.

“In each hour-long episode, ordinary people will be assigned a new demanding challenge under the watchful eye of art experts. They will have to prove that they have what it takes to successfully buy and sell pieces of art in their quest to win The Art. Game.”
