Jack White plays an intimate show at Basement East in Nashville. Here are the top moments

Alternative rock legend and Nashville resident Jack White played a sweaty, soulful rock ‘n’ roll show to a sold-out crowd at Music City’s Basement East on Tuesday night.

The Aug. 13 concert was the latest in White’s recent round of “pop-up shows,” where he announces a concert close to the date and sells tickets shortly before the show.

With a capacity of 575, White’s Basement East show was close-knit and intimate. Fans lucky enough to get the limited tickets were eager to hear White’s new music in person.

The Nashville show followed the official release of White’s No Name album to the public on Aug. 2, after Third Man Records employees slipped the record into buyers’ bags under the radar days before.

Although The Tennessean did not receive permission for photos at the concert, we are here to let you know the highlights of the evening.

Jack White’s Nashville show full of jam sessions, rumbling bass, soaring guitar riffs

The Detroit-born rocker took the stage wearing a black jacket with two white stripes on it, perhaps a tribute to his time as the frontman and guitarist for the duo The White Stripes.

Joining White on stage in Nashville were drummer Patrick Keeler (The Raconteurs), keyboardist Bobby Emmett (The Sights) and bassist Dominic Davis.

The band delivered a tight 90-minute set, complete with jam sessions, echoing reverb, rumbling bass licks and raw electric guitar riffs that could have gone on forever.

Picking highlights from White’s show is a tall order; he did so perfectly that the evening was directed by White, who effortlessly played both the maestro and the star of the show.

White kicked off the night with new hits from the front of No Name, starting with album opener “Old Scratch Blues” and performing “That’s How I’m Feeling” and “It’s Rough on Rats (If You’re Asking) . ).”

Amidst white strobe lights and a wave of blue lighting (to match the bright blue “No Name” album cover), White told the crowd, “Everybody in the whole damn room, clap your hands!”

He screamed into the microphone in a high-pitched shriek and even spoke in a charismatic, rock ‘n’ roll cadence when addressing the crowd. White’s rockstar persona permeated the East Basement—he never wavered.

The song “Hotel Yorba” was one of the highlights of the set, a song that White called a “country song”. He encouraged the audience to clap and sing along.

During “What is The Rumpus?” White had the audience singing “ohs” along with his vocals, and on the encore track “Steady, As She Goes”, White invited the audience to sing an a cappella chorus before closing the show.

The night was defined by White’s captivating vocals, thunderous guitar licks and aggressive, in-your-face rock ‘n’ roll, which ranged from solo Jack White songs to those of previous projects The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.

Toward the end of the show, White said, “I’m not going to lie to you, I want to sing all night.”
