Aug. 16 (UPI) — Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign detailed her economic agenda Friday ahead of a campaign speech in Raleigh, NC

The campaign said Harris, if elected, would immediately work to lower food costs by banning price increases, cutting taxes on the middle class, cutting prescription drug prices and housing costs, and relieving medical debt.

“Vice President Harris has made it clear that building the middle class will be a defining goal of her presidency,” the campaign said. “She will give Americans who are demanding a new way forward to a future that uplifts all Americans so that they can not just get by, but move forward.”

The Harris campaign said her economic policies as president would protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, give union rights to workers to bargain for higher wages and small businesses, labor and large corporations together to invest in America and create jobs.

Harris plans to use his presidency to lower the costs of education, child care and long-term care, he added.

The Harris campaign called for lowering food costs by fighting corporate price gouging, building 3 million new housing units to end the housing shortage and reducing housing costs, speeding up Medicare prescription drug price negotiations and tax cuts for the middle class for 100 million Americans through the child tax. credits up to $6,000 per child.

Those policies, the campaign said, are a stark contrast to Trump-Vance campaign promises to billionaires and corporations.

“Donald Trump is running on a promise to give yet another billionaire tax break to his ultra-wealthy friends,” Harris’ campaign statement read. “His plan will give billionaires a $3.5 million tax handout every year, give big corporations a $1.5 trillion windfall, and make it easier for rich cheaters to avoid paying what they owe . Meanwhile, earlier this summer, JD Vance did not. even show up for a vote to cut taxes for middle-class families.”

Harris on Thursday announced plans for a federal ban on corporate food price gouging.

“There is a big difference between fair pricing in competitive markets and excessive pricing unrelated to the costs of doing business,” the Harris campaign said in a statement. “Americans can see that difference in their grocery bills.”

The Harris campaign said it will ask the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to investigate corporations that take advantage of inflation to drive up prices for consumers.
