The wall of water flooded the Orem family home during the “100-year” event.

OREM, Utah — Days after an intense storm flooded the city of Orem, cleanup problems continued for families with water seeping through their basements.

Fans of all shapes and sizes raced non-stop in the Redds’ basement. They are doing everything they can to dry out the bottom from Tuesday’s flood.

“The worst part was the glass and the hail and the debris, just trying to filter it out and try to pump the water out,” Whitney Redd said.

The city now calls it “a 100-year flood event.”

Redd remembers what it was like initially to watch the weather come.

“It was just like, ‘Oh, this is fun. This is new.” Then it just started throwing, throwing, throwing, to the point where it looked like a river was coming down our driveway here,” she said.

It was an instant scramble to move what they could to higher ground, but the rain was falling too quickly.

“(My husband says) “It’s going down too fast. There’s no way we can get all of that out. Get out of the room, get out of the room,” she said.

Redd was recording the water seeping through her in-laws’ basement window when suddenly a huge wave broke out.

“Surreal, just surreal, all that water coming in,” Redd recalled. “We recently went to Niagara Falls and that’s how it was at our house.”

She said there was a foot and a half to two feet of water. They had also just remodeled the basement from a backup duct two months ago.

“Everybody’s safe, it’s just a house,” Redd said. “It’s really gross, but it’s just a house.”

Redd’s sister has set up a GoFundMe to help the family cover the second round of remodeling this year. To donate, click here.
