Changes coming to Mackinac Island ferry routes

Changes coming to Mackinac Island ferry routes

UPPER MICHIGAN. (WLUC) – For those planning to visit Mackinac Island this weekend, you may notice changes to the ferry routes.

Shepler’s Ferry Company said they will not be running any Mighty Mac tours under the Mackinac Bridge. The high volume of customers has caused this to happen for the foreseeable future.

The Ferries will run to and from Mackinac Island every 15 minutes, leaving from Mackinaw City and St. Ignatius.

Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau Executive Director Tim Hygh has one thing he wants people to know.

“I think it is good if people call ahead, we don’t anticipate any changes, but it is always good to call ahead to see if there have been any changes on the day that you are going to leave,” Hygh said.

The Mackinac Island Ferry Company currently has a limited schedule of boats leaving from Mackinaw City. The St. Ignace dock is not operational.

The executive director also mentioned shuttle service is available for transport between Shepler’s and MIFC parking lots.
