The Davenport City Council will vote on the new city attorney

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – The Davenport City Council is expected to vote on a new city attorney at Wednesday night’s city council meeting.

A resolution will be voted on whether or not to appoint Samuel Huff IV as Davenport City Corporation Counsel (city attorney) and approve a related employment contract, according to city documents.

In February, a request for proposals was issued for an executive search firm to recruit both the City Manager and Corporation Counsel.

In March, the Procurement Division received eight proposals, according to city documents. Proposals were evaluated based on the firms’ experience, qualifications and expertise, business process, pricing, references, and the quality and thoroughness of the proposals.

In April, the City Council formally approved a contract with Colin Baenziger & Associates to perform both recruitments.

The recruiting firm conducted research with elected officials to build the ideal candidate profile for the Corporation Counsel recruitment and developed the related recruitment brochure, according to city documents. The recruiter also conducted a compensation analysis that was shared with the City Council.

In mid-June, the position was posted on various platforms and emailed directly to more than 13,000 professionals, while the firm also conducted its own outreach simultaneously, according to city documents.

All applicants applied directly to the recruiting firm, and the applicant’s initial assessment was conducted by it, according to city documents. The recruiting firm also conducted a first round of screening with each applicant and forwarded qualified candidates to the city for further interviews and screening.

The city then conducted a more comprehensive interview/selection process involving various elected officials, outside legal representation and staff members, according to city documents. The process ended with a recommendation to the City Council for formal consideration.

This is a developing story. TV6 will continue to provide online and live updates as they become available.
