Union Co. The Braves are looking to stay the course with recent success

UNION CO., Ky. (WFIE) – We’re moving right along, staying in Kentucky with the powerhouse that has been the Union County Braves for the last few years.

And no, it’s not overpowering, they’re 33-5 over that span, but this year they aim to do more. After an 11-win season in 2023, the Braves went to take a step forward, with the dream being a trip to Kroger Field. Head coach Derek Johns has put this group in a position to succeed, especially this senior class that is used to winning, now in year four, how far can they go?

“We return our entire offensive line and we return our top three rushers from last year. That is almost 4,000 meters on the run. Just get better every day, we’re going to focus week by week,” head coach Derek Johns said. “Just understanding those little details, improving the little details to get better. Our goal is to get past the third round.”

This group shares the goals that their coach has and I think they can do it, especially with this tight group.

“We’ve been playing together since elementary school and I feel like this group has always been tight together,” said senior offensive lineman and running back Caiden Broadus. “We’re used to playing with each other and I think that’s our strongest point this year.”

“First of all, I want to win district, then I want to get to Kroger Field and win state,” senior quarterback and running back Jarren Johnson said. “It starts in practice first. We have to complete everything in training, come hard every day and have everyone show up and I think we can do it.”

First for the Braves, Madisonville North Hopkins, Friday, August 23.
