Christopher Eccleston joins WHISPERS OF FREEDOM, which tells the tragic true story of an East Berlin escape attempt — GeekTyrant

Whispers of freedom is a film project that recently finished production in Berlin and it was announced that Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World, Doctor Who) and Thomas W. Gabrielsson (A royal affair) were cast in the film.

This film tells the tragic true story of the last escape attempt from East Berlin. The story is set in the 1980s and follows “young East German Chris Gueffroy, before his escape attempt from the isolated Eastern Bloc state.

Gueffroy was “the last person to be shot and the last to die in an escape attempt as he tried to flee west over the Berlin Wall.”

The film is written and directed by Brandon Ashplant the rest of the distribution includes Cameron Ashplant (The Last Bus) as Chris Gueffroy, Wendy McKenna (Sister Act) as Karin Gueffroy, Darragh Cowley (Masters of the Air) as Christian Gaudian and Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) as Erich Honecker.

It is explained that several German historians, authors and institutions helped develop this film to act as historical consultants to ensure that the story they tell is correct.
