We appealed to the UN to seek support for a proper investigation, punishment for the recent violence: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh had appealed to the United Nations to seek support for a proper investigation into the recent violence that has centered on quota protests.

“We have appealed to the United Nations. There are various international organizations, especially abroad. We seek their assistance in investigating and appropriately punishing those responsible (or guilty),” the prime minister said at a conference at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. today (July 31).

Earlier on July 30, the prime minister had said that external technical assistance would be taken for the judicial inquiry commission set up by the government to ensure a fair and standard inquiry into the quota reform movement.

“We will receive foreign technical assistance for the judicial inquiry commission to make it adequate, qualitative and of high standard,” she said.

The government formed the Judicial Inquiry Commission with High Court Judge Khandaker Diliruzzaman to investigate all the deaths that centered the quota reform movement in the country.

“I took the initiative instead of waiting for someone’s request. I requested to include two more judges and increase the scope of the investigation,” she told the media today.
