Last month, Hyundai confirmed that this would be the year it would launch its electric three-row SUV. We’ve been waiting a while for it to materialize since the company unveiled its Seven concept, seemingly previewing the SUV, back in 2021. We’re getting an early look at it thanks to new spy shots, and it certainly follows the pattern set by the Seven.

The basic profile matches the concept, although the roof appears taller. The entire SUV also looks longer. And naturally, the concept’s rear-hinged rear doors have been ditched for conventional examples. All these changes are certainly to provide more space inside for both people and cargo. However, the windshield is steeply angled and forms a clean arc to the rear, like the show car.

Looking at the front, we expect a fascia similar to the concept and other Ioniq models, especially the main light bar up front and a pillar of LEDs on either side. Up close, we can see a few amber LEDs above and below the main lightbar, with each ‘pixel’ spaced out a bit. And the wheel arches are quite pronounced separate sections of sheet metal. They’re a bit like more conservative versions of the contrasting fenders on the little Kona. Under them are 21-inch wheels.

The back is heavily covered so it’s hard to see much. But one detail is very faithful to the concept: the taillights. The full LED arc has made it to production and everything lights up when braking.

These photos also give us our first real look at the interior. This is much more of a typical Ioniq interior, starting with a pair of large screens in a single monolith. They sit on top of a low shelf of a dashboard. The steering wheel appears to be the box-shaped unit from the Santa Fe and has illuminated “pixels” like other Ioniqs. Generous amounts of silver-painted plastic cover the interior.

The dashboard also provides an interesting piece of information. We can clearly see a range estimate and charging status. At 95 percent charge, the SUV reports an estimated range of 308 miles, with high and low estimates of 480 and 208 miles, respectively. These extremes are, well, definitely extremes. However, 308 miles would seem believable, as the Kia EV9, which also sits on the E-GMP platform and should be quite analogous to the Hyundai, has an EPA range of 304 miles on a full charge.

We anticipate an unveiling of the larger Ioniq at the LA Auto Show, in line with Hyundai’s confirmation, the full character of this prototype and the popularity of three-row SUVs in the US. -motorized rear-wheel drive model with long-range and short-range battery packs, plus a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version with only the long-range pack. Power should range from just over 200 horsepower for base models and 379 horsepower like the twin-engine EV9.
