Robert Saleh on the Jets’ longest training camp practice

Robert Saleh on the Jets’ longest training camp practice

Tuesday was the longest practice of Jets training camp, a 2-hour, 25-minute practice that was designed.

Coach Robert Saleh felt it was important to push his players at this point in the summer. Practice was heavy on 11-on-11 team drills.

“It was a good one,” he said. “I think I wrote the equivalent of almost three quarters of football for the first and second groups. It was good because we didn’t flinch, so we’re in pretty good shape.”

Saleh plans to have another long practice soon as the Jets continue to prepare for the Sept. 9 opener at San Francisco.

It’s a different philosophy compared to how Saleh has run the training camp in recent years.

“It’s all a progression, so we’ve stepped up and tried to add all the focus to be ready for Week 1, so we’re continuing to add the load on top of our players to get them ready to play a full game. Saleh said. “So now I’m confident we can play a full game, even though we’ve played the equivalent of about three quarters, but we’re still going to have a long one.”

The absence of new addition Haason Reddick and the departure of Bryce Huff created question marks on the defensive end.

That means more responsibility for third-year pro Jermaine Johnson, who had a big season last year, recording 55 tackles and 7.5 sacks.

“I look at myself to do every game, if I’m quite honest. It doesn’t even have to be weird,” Johnson said. “I think I can do this. If it comes my way, I think I can do (the play). No one can put more pressure on me than I do on myself.

“Just a lot of confidence. Been here, done that. Now I’m just looking to take my game to the next level.”

The biggest practice shot was made by an offensive player.

Running back Breece Hall hits linebacker Quincy Williams after making a short catch during team drills.

It drew a big reaction from the crowd.
