Tim Walz Accused of Lying About ‘White Guy’s Tacos’

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has been accused on social media of lying about eating “white guy tacos” that consisted of “ground beef and cheese” after a recipe he shared in 2022 resurfaced, showing diced green chilies and a bottle of taco sauce on the ingredients. list.

Walz made the “white man’s tacos” comment in a 10-minute chat with Vice President Kamala Harris that was posted on YouTube Thursday. It has already garnered over 1 million views. The informal conversation, which took the style of a fireside chat between Harris and Walz, the Democratic nominees for president and vice president, respectively, covered a range of topics, including politics, music and food.

On X, formerly Twitter, Walz uploaded a 30-second promotional clip of the discussion, which received more than 4 million views and thousands of comments, with a number of social media users noting that in an X post from January 2022, Walz shared the recipe. for Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish, which won the Minnesota Congressional Delegation’s 2016 competition.

One user wrote: “Why did Walz lie about eating ‘white boy tacos’? Just two years ago, he was talking about his award-winning taco recipe. Loaded with spices!”

Earlier this month, Harris announced Walz as her 2024 running mate, sparking a surge of interest in the governor’s politics and personality. Since becoming his party’s presumptive nominee, Harris has polled strongly against Republican rival Donald Trump, with an Emerson College poll released Thursday giving him a 4-point lead.

In the video of her conversation with Walz, the governor says, “I got tacos with white boys,” to which Harris replies, “What does that mean? Mayonnaise and tuna? What are you doing?”

Walz says, “More ground beef and cheese.” The vice president replies, “That’s fine. You put some flavor on it”. When the governor says no, Harris bursts into laughter.

Walz adds, “No, they said to be careful and tell him that black pepper is the pinnacle of spice in Minnesota, you know.”

Harris then says, “I’m the first vice president, I think, that ever grew chili peppers.”

Newsweek reached out to Walz’s press office and the Harris campaign for comment by email outside normal business hours.

In his 2022 post, Walz posted a photo of his 2016 “Hotdish Off” award, writing, “I don’t know guys… I make a pretty bad hotdish. Check out my award-winning Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish recipe. Here.”

A link included in the post led to a 2016 article published by Journal in Minnesota, which listed Walz’s winning recipe. Among the ingredients were “1 can diced green chilies,” “1 bottle taco sauce (medium),” and “chili powder.”

“Tim Waltz is an a**n liar. If I was still from Minnesota I’d be absolutely embarrassed,” commented user X. “Attached below this post is Tim’s Hot Dish which is very spicy. The guy is a pathological liar .”

Another added: “Hmm, so Tim’s lying, it’s not just another ‘wypipo mayonnaise You don’t like condiments.’

In another post, the user wrote: “What a way to push the ‘white people are soft’ narrative.” Keep that racism alive Tim! It perpetuates the “I’m just a pathetic white person” attitude. pathetic.”
