A motorcyclist has been pronounced dead following a collision with a van near Wick

A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a van in the Highlands.

Officers were called to the A882 near Wick at around 7.50pm on Tuesday August 13 to a collision involving a Ducati motorbike and a Ford Transit.

The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the van was uninjured.

Police confirmed the road had reopened in the early hours of Wednesday morning and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Calum Macaulay of the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit said: “Enquiries are ongoing into all the circumstances of the accident. Sadly the motorcyclist has passed away and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, who assisted at the scene or who may have dashcam footage and has not yet spoken and provided this information to officers to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road reopened on Wednesday, August 14, around 4.20 am. I want to thank the public for their patience while we investigated this serious accident.

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland 101citing incident number 3450 dated Tuesday, August 13, 2024.”
