Colin Firth joins Steven Spielberg’s next film alongside Emily Blunt

EXCLUSIVE: After casting Emily Bunt in May, Steven Spielberg appears to have found another A-lister for his next action film, as Deadline learns that Colin Firth is in early talks to join the cast. The Amblin and Universal pic is based on a story by Spielberg and has the director’s longtime collaborator David Koepp writing the screenplay.

Universal has given the film a May 15, 2026 release date, landing it in the summer slot created by Spielberg decades ago with films like The jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It would mark his first major summer release in some time.

This would mark the first time The King’s Speech Oscar winner Firth and three-time Oscar winner Spielberg worked together. Firth follows up his Emmy-nominated role in the HBO limited series Scale. He recently wrapped production on the Peacock series Lockerbie and has a role in Prime Video’s upcoming Guy Ritchie series Young Sherlock.

His film credits also include Kingsmen and Bridget Jones franchises, 1917, Mamma Mia! Here we go again, A single man, true love, girl with a pearl earring and The English patient.

Firth is repped by CAA.
