All eyes are on how It ends with us will perform on the second weekend. It faces little competition in female fare and boasts stellar audience scores. Sony insiders are cautious about suggesting $22 million to $24 million, but others believe it could hit the $20 million range.

There’s also the matter of an ongoing social media firestorm that began when Lively, Hoover and other cast members conspicuously didn’t pose for pictures with Baldoni at the New York premiere (they also didn’t follow on Instagram). Reports surfaced that a rift occurred during production due to creative differences between Lively and Baldoni, as well as allegations that he alienated Lively and others on set with certain comments. So far, neither side has commented, although Baldoni has hired Melissa Nathan, who is responsible for PR crisis communications.

Even Sony’s besties jumped into the mix to support Lively when social media users targeted her for not taking the film’s domestic abuse subject seriously, even though she spoke about it often on tour of the press.

“Blake, Colleen and so many women put so much effort into this remarkable film, working selflessly from the beginning to ensure such an important subject was handled with care. The audience loves the film. Blake’s passion and commitment to advancing the conversation about domestic violence is commendable,” said Tony Vinciquerra, president and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The Hollywood Reporter on August 15. He made no mention of Baldoni.

“We love working with Blake,” the executive continued, “and we want to make 12 more movies with her.”
