New Jersey gang member pleads guilty to racketeering charge in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — A member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a racketeering conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Thursday.

Kareem Green, also known as “Try Me,” 32, pleaded guilty to one count of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy, as well as a separate indictment for distribution of cocaine. Green pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in federal court in Newark.

Court documents and statements made during the hearing showed that from 2015 to September 22, 2022, Green was an active member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips, a criminal organization involved in acts of violence and drug distribution in New Jersey and other areas.

On three separate occasions in 2021, Green participated in criminal activities with other gang members, including two shootings in April and the distribution of cocaine in March.

The RICO conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The controlled substance charge is also punishable by up to 20 years in prison with a possible fine of up to $1 million. Green is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18, 2024.

    The rally is organized by the groups Nodutdol, Bayan USA Northeast and Malaya Movement, which collaborates with pro-Palestinian organizations such as the Palestinian Youth Movement of NYC and the People’s Forum. The demonstration aims to show solidarity with demands that the United States withdraw from Korea and “get its hands off Gaza.”

    The number of participants expected at the rally is currently unknown, and organizers have not obtained permits for the demonstration.

    Murphy will travel across the country to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris, serving as a surrogate for her presidential bid. Murphy, who heads the Irish Americans for Kamala Harris group, will be out of the state from the afternoon of Friday, August 16 until Friday, August 23.

    During his absence, Lt. Governor Tahesha Way will serve as acting governor.

    In addition to his campaign activities, Murphy is taking steps to revoke the liquor licenses of two of former President Donald Trump’s golf courses in New Jersey.

    Since returning from his vacation in Italy, Murphy has sparked public interest due to noticeable changes in his physical appearance.

    Observers pointed out that the governor’s face appeared swollen and covered with multiple abrasions. Despite the visible changes, the Murphy administration has offered no comment or explanation regarding the governor’s apparent physical ailments.

    Governor Murphy’s upcoming trip has raised questions about his health, with some New Jersey residents expressing concern over the lack of transparency regarding his condition. So far, the administration has remained silent on the matter.
