The Kamala Harris video appears to show people leaving the rally mid-speech

A video from Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign rally in Atlanta on Tuesday appears to show attendees leaving mid-speech.

On X, ex-Twitter Savanah Hernandez, a reporter for the conservative organization Turning Point USA, posted a video she said showed attendees leaving the rally while Harris was on stage. The reporter said Harris spoke for 15 minutes before people started leaving.

In the clip, some of the attendees can be seen holding ‘Kamala’ placards and it is unclear if they were leaving the venue or had left the seats for another reason, such as going to the toilet.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion performed at the event before Harris spoke, and X users theorized that rally attendees may have attended the event to see the performance.

Since Biden ended his re-election bid on July 21 and endorsed Harris, the new presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has improved in the polls among various demographics, including young people and black voters, which could help the odds in some key states like Georgia.

Newsweek reached out to Harris’ campaign for comment by email outside regular business hours.

On Truth Social, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took a swipe at Harris during the rally, writing, “Crazy Kamala Harris, voted the WORST VP in American history, needed a concert to bring people to the arena in Atlanta and they. she started leaving 5 minutes into her speech. I don’t need concerts or entertainers, I just need to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Trump has previously faced similar questions after dozens of people were filmed appearing to leave his rallies early.

Although some questioned whether the rally participants had left early, others hailed the event as a triumph.

The organizers of the rally said The New York Times that approximately 10,000 people attended the event at the Georgia State University Convocation Center. The stadium’s website says it has the capacity to seat up to 8,000.

The X account @harris_wins posted a video from the rally showing an agitated crowd waving “Kamala” signs in the air.

“The media might not say it, but Democrats are far more excited about electing Vice President Kamala Harris as president than Republicans are about electing Donald Trump,” the pro-Harris account wrote.

In her speech, Harris argued for her candidacy and challenged Trump to a debate.

“Donald, I hope you’ll reconsider meeting me on the debate stage because, as the saying goes, if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face,” she said.

In 2020, Biden won Georgia by the narrowest margin of any state, by less than 12,000 votes.

Polls in recent months have generally shown Trump winning the state. But Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff, a Democrat, told MSNBC on Saturday that Harris’ entry into the race put the state “on the line.”
