  • Netflix has renewed the gangster series “The Gentlemen” for season 2.
  • Guy Ritchie returns to co-write and direct the series.
  • Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings return to star.

Crowds appeared to enjoy Guy Ritchie’s small-screen spin-off from his 2019 gangster comedy-drama The Gentlemen, as the eponymous series soared to the top of the viewership charts for the service of Netflix streaming.

So we’re not shocked to learn that the company has renewed the crime series for a second season of colorful comedy/drama mayhem.

What is the story of “Gentlemen”?

The show’s first season saw Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire.

What’s more, a host of unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to free his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game.

However, as he is absorbed into the world of crime, he begins to find his taste, with an unexpected ally found in the sophisticated but ruthless Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario).

As for what will happen in season 2? With Eddie and Susie solidifying their grip on the empire at the end of the first episode, we can safely assume there will be brand new challenges from a host of colorful criminal characters that Ritchie has become known for.

Here’s what Scodelario told Netflix’s Tudum about her hopes for the second season:

“It would be fun to see the business spread a little more. How do they take it to the next level? They are very determined not to get into the chop game, so how can they continue to build the empire? Where does this lead them? How does the new business structure work in practice?”

And we might see romance grow between the partners in crime. James isn’t so sure, as he told Tudum in his own interview:

“I think they’ve come to love each other in their own way, but I think they’ll never fully trust each other because they’re so different and come from such very different worlds. There is a love between them, but in the end they will never be of the same cloth.”

Who Will Return For ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2?

James and Scodelario are mentioned in Netflix’s release for the series, along with Daniel Ings, who plays Eddie’s rebellious brother Freddy.

We’ll have to wait and see who returns, though a safe bet definitely has to be Ray Winstone as Susie’s father, Bobby, who built the weed empire in the first place. And there’s a chance that Joely Richardson will return as Eddie and Freddy’s mother, Lady Sabrina, alongside loyal keeper/fixer Geoff Seacombe (Vinnie Jones).

With filming scheduled for next year, we’d guess the show won’t return until later in 2025. Ritchie returns as co-writer and director for the series alongside co-writer Matthew Read. We are promised eight episodes in season 2.
