Rapper charged in shooting of New York teenager walking home from Nets game

A rapper and gangbanger has been charged with shooting a 13-year-old Brooklyn boy on his way home from a Brooklyn Nets game nearly six months ago, prosecutors said this week.

Jared “Jah Woo” McCauley, 21, was arraigned Wednesday on a 13-count indictment charging him with murder, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment in the Feb. 29 slaying of Troy Gill , according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

Gill was on his way home from a basketball game at the Barclays Center when a car-borne gunman shot him in the chest and upper body at Bergen Street and New York Avenue in Crown Heights around 10:30 p.m., according to policemen and prosecutors.

The critically injured teenager tragically called his mother to say he had been shot — before being rushed to Kings County Hospital Center, where he died, the district attorney’s office said.

About half an hour later, McCauley and his alleged accomplice, Sheikh Koureichi, 21, drove a white Jeep to East New York, where they unloaded rounds at the front door of a rival gangbanger who was believed to have belonged to the Drench Street crew, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors call both incidents motivated by retaliation for an alleged act of violence against McCauley earlier in the day.

McCauley — a rapper associated with the Woo gang — was allegedly lured to the Bronx, forced into a car, beaten, stripped and then thrown from the vehicle in an incident that was recorded and posted on social media.

Koureichi – who was said to be in the car when McCauley fired a barrage of bullets at Gill – was arraigned on the same indictment on July 29.

Both suspects were held without bail, which a judge upheld during their second appearance on Friday.

“As alleged, these defendants took revenge that took the life of a young man,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement.

“This type of senseless revenge gang violence claims too many lives, including children, and my office, along with the NYPD, is focused on solving each of these shootings and holding those responsible,” Gonzalez added.

“I commend everyone who worked on this complicated investigation and hope that today’s indictment will bring some small relief to Troy’s loved ones.”
