Lorain Schools will be holding the Back 2 School Bash at Black River Landing

Lorain Schools will be holding the Back 2 School Bash at Black River Landing

Lorain City Schools is putting on what can be called part trade show, part open house and lots of fun and games during its fourth annual Back 2 School competition.

The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Aug. 18, at Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane, Lorain.

All families with ties to Lorain City Schools are encouraged to attend and not only join in the festivities, but also get
to meet teachers, administrators and staff members.

Food and snacks, games and even a bounce house will be available, according to Christa Lokiec, director of communications and community relations for Lorain City Schools.

Music and entertainment will accompany various giveaways and prizes, all designed to celebrate the start of school.

“We expect about 2,500 people to come,” Lokiec said. “We have 14 buildings and each building will have its own table with information and goodies and people will be able to meet staff from each building.

“There will be gifts, but school supplies will still be provided at school rather than at the party. It’s a time to energize ourselves for the school year the day before we head back.

“It’s our first real back-to-work day if staff want to join and volunteer at the event and an opportunity to celebrate all things Lorain City Schools. Say goodbye to summer vacation and hello back to school.”

The event has a number of sponsors, including the Council for Children and Families of Lorain County, who Lokiec specifically called out for their amazing help with the program.

In addition to each building hosting a table, dozens of local organizations will be on hand to introduce themselves and share information about their services to students and their families.

These groups include Lorain County Community College, Safety Town, Kid Fingerprint ID and Good Knights of Lorain County.
