The Kids Carnival is back on the first Friday in August in downtown Williamsport | News, Sports, Jobs

August 2022

This week’s First Friday Kids Carnival is an opportunity for families to have fun while giving back to the community.

Sponsored by The Brickyard and Stonehouse Pizza, the carnival takes place in Pine Square between the two businesses. A portion of the proceeds go to support the Lycoming County United Way (LCUW). The two companies provide the games and LCUW provides volunteers for the event.

“It’s just a really positive partnership for us,” said Amber Newell, director of community impact at LCUW.

There will be a variety of games, 11 in total, such as ring toss, spin-it-to-win-it, strongman, corrnhole and dunk tank.

“It’s just going to be a variety of games for the kids to participate in.” Newell said.

The games are aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 12, but parents can join in the fun with their kids, and older kids might enjoy the plunge tank. Tickets must be purchased in order to participate in the games.

“It’s a family event. I know there are parents who brought their whole family and then helped their children.” Newell said.

The event is in line with United Way’s mission—health, education, financial stability, Newell said.

“In terms of health, it’s good for families to get outside, get some fresh air and participate in active play.” she said.

Community outreach and social interaction is another benefit of the event.

“It’s a low-cost event where people can come out, just be in the community and have fun.” Newell said.

“What it shows the most is our focus on community and then also our effectiveness in creating partnerships. We wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t have partnerships with those businesses,” she said.

The carnival takes place from 17:00 to 19:00
