Major pop star under investigation for island beach video scene

Looks like Katy Perry is having trouble finding a groove in 2024.

In July, Perry released the single “Woman’s World” from her seventh album, 143, and it was widely panned, with Rolling Stone asking if it was “the worst comeback single ever the times”. The song didn’t make much of an impact on the charts.

Perry released another single from the album, “Lifetimes,” and created new problems for the pop star.

According to USA Today, the Balearic Islands Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release Tuesday that it is investigating whether part of the “Lifetimes” video was recorded on a beach in Ses Salines Natural Park without authorization.

The press release says the filming may have damaged some of the sand dunes on the beach, though the investigation is not for an “environmental crime,” Entertainment Weekly reports. The video was produced by Perry’s production company, WeOwnTheCity.

Entertainment Weekly says the dunes “are part of a protected area of the Pityusic Islands called the Ses Salines Natural Park, which provides a vital nesting area for migratory birds and supports crucial ecological and marine habitats.”

Perry, 39, has been one of the best-selling pop stars of the past decade, with around 143 records sold worldwide. She had her first hit with “I Kissed A Girl” in 2008. Since then she’s had more hits, including “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Firework,” and performed during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show in February. 1, 2015.

Perry was a judge on “American Idol” for six years, leaving after the most recent season. She is reportedly one of the richest music stars in the world, with an estimated worth of over $500 million.
