What happened to Kate Walsh’s The Handler from The Umbrella Academy?

Best known for her role in Grey’s Anatomy, Kate Walsh’s character “The Handler” in Umbrella Academy made quite an impression on the fans. Since she was the main antagonist of the series, fans and viewers were left curious about her fate after her death in season 2. So what happened to ‘The Handler’?

As a result of The Handler’s shortcomings in Season 1 (thanks to Five and his brothers), she was stripped of rank and demoted by the Commission. Vindictive and disgruntled, Walsh’s character became hostile to her organization and attempted a takeover.

Season 2 saw the return of Handler with a penchant for revenge against the Hargreeves and the Five. Especially after Hazel tried to kill her by shooting her in the head. However, during an intense altercation with Five and the rest of the Hargreeves crew, she managed to kill the aforementioned people except for Five.

However, after Five turned back time, it was Ax – a member of The Swedes – who ended Handler’s life for good. Since then, “The Handler” has remained non-existent for all of seasons 3 and 4 of the Umbrella Academy. That is until the end of the fourth season.

After restoring balance and returning to the main timeline, the show introduced a completely different avatar of ‘The Handler’. Instead of a mischievous aura, she was seen flashing a genuine smile.

Furthermore, “The Handler” appeared to be exercising in a park next to her friend Grace – the robot who raised the Hargreeves brothers. The scene ended with “The Handler” appearing to be engaged in a call with someone.

Walsh’s “The Handler” in Umbrella Academy it is one of the largest parts of the Commission – offering its service to protect the future. Her character can be described as ruthless, strange, selfish, mischievous and cautious. Rightfully so, she was the main antagonist of seasons 1 and 2 in Umbrella Academy.

A noteworthy trait of “The Handler” was her smart fashion sense and disregard for social settings. An example of this was when he had a date with Five in the men’s bathroom and offered her candy while she nonchalantly went about her business.

“The Handler” discovered Five (from the past) in a dystopian future, all gone. Although, she was also his employer; they were former colleagues before his untimely departure.

After discovering Five’s disobedience, she attempted to capture and eliminate him many times. However, she failed due to the intervention of Five and his brothers’ powers – the abilities of the Hargreeves, as mentioned in the series.

When asked about her character’s knowledge of Lila (Ritu Arya), her daughter, Welsh gave a brief character description of “The Handler.” She notes,

“I think she (The Handler) is a narcissist and a sociopath.”

Furthermore, Welsh claimed that “The Handler” was a user who believed that humans were responsible. However, what stood out most to Welsh about her character was her complete lack of humanity. The handler in Umbrella Academy he was definitely a complex and refreshing character. Although she’s gone, viewers can enjoy the show’s other antagonists in the recently released Season 4. Umbrella Academy on Netflix.
