PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education voted to approve Matt Null as the new principal of Blennerhassett Middle School during a special meeting Tuesday.

Null will be leaving her position as principal at Kanawha Elementary.

“Welcome to your new adventure” Board Chairman Justin Raber said.

“Thank you sir. I’m excited,” Null replied.

The board also voted to approve Ryan McIntyre as the new assistant principal at Lubeck and Neale Elementary.

“I would like to congratulate you both for continuing your careers.” Board member Sarah Townsend said. “Thank you for your care and concern for our school system.”

Board member Judy Johnson expressed concern about the distribution of supply funds to teachers. She noted that some schools seem to have “extraordinary” amounts of funds, while teachers report running out of supplies by mid-year. Johnson requested that an inquiry be sent to the Faculty Senate to get faculty feedback on whether they feel they are receiving adequate funding.

“I just want to make sure the money has grown over the years” Johnson said. “I know what I got. And I know things have tripled or more so far, and I’d like to hear from the teachers.”

She said the district needs to make sure it’s not asking the public to help them with supplies.

During the consent agenda, the board approved awarding the safe entry bid to Hamilton Middle School for 3D Construction in the amount of $304,079, which includes the base bid of $217,419 and 1 alternate of $86,660.

The next meeting of the Wood County Board of Education is scheduled for August 13 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the council offices located at the corner of Plum and 13th Streets in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
